HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Muskegon County Sheriff’s officials are warning area residents that a phone scam is being reported, according to the Grand Haven Tribune.
It’s similar to one that happened recently in Ottawa County.
The suspect is calling people, claiming to be Muskgeon County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Tom Johnson, but he is not. The callers is trying to get people scared enough to give him money.
The caller uses a number which sounds like it belongs to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Muskegon County Sheriff’s officals says police never call asking for money.
