HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Gusting winds have caused spotty power outages in Allegan and Ottawa counties, according to Consumer Energy’s outage map.
As of 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, nearly 100 customers lost power in West Olive Township, near Port Sheldon Road, east of North 120th Avenue; just over 100 were in the dark along 144th Avenue, east of 38th Street, crossing east from Overisel to Salem townships; another 150 customers are waiting for power just northeast of Pullman, as of 7 p.m. Great Lakes Energy’s outage map indicated three customers without power, in an area just southeast of Wnding Creek Golf Club.
Windy conditions could create other outages overnight.
Safety tips from Consumers Energy include:
- Stay at least 25 feet away from downed power lines and keep children and pets away. Watch for downed lines when clearing fallen limbs and debris. Call 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 — or your specific power provider — to report downed wires.
- If operating a generator be aware that improper use may produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless and deadly gas. Never use a generator in an attached garage, basement or near any air intakes, and never fuel a generator when it is running.
- Be alert to crews working along roads and “slow down and go around.” Drivers are urged to slow down or stop and wait for oncoming traffic to clear then safely pass workers on roadsides.
