John A. Heyboer Jr., age 92, of Holland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, January 4, 2019.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 70 years, Wava; his children: Jack and Patti Heyboer, Philip and Christine De Jong, Marcia and Jerry Van Nuil, Lisa and Cal Blystra and Jim and Heather Heyboer; grandchildren: Mandy and Joel Cooper, Kate and Bewketo Likaont, John and Mia Heyboer, Patrick and Jenna Heyboer, Ruth De Jonge and Charlie Skinner, Philip Jr. and Jenny De Jong, Peter De Jong, Alex De Jong, Rachel De Jong, Melissa and Matt Nelson, Jennifer Van Nuil and Peterson Gasangwa, Jeremy and Jen Van Nuil, Lindsey Van Nuil, Adam and Claire Blystra, Marci and Jeff Mulder, David and Claire Blystra, Peter and Jenny Heyboer, Jason and Lara Heyboer, Megan and David Koens, 31 great grandchildren; sister Norma Timmer and sister-in-law Jeanette Dentton.
John was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Angel Koens; his siblings: Edwin Heyboer, Gerald T. Heyboer and Connie Hophan.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Tech Sargent after the end of WWII. He started his career in insurance in Detroit with Michigan Inspection Bureau in 1948. He moved to Holland in 1964 and started the Van Lente-Heyboer Agency, the agency grew substantially through mergers and acquisitions; he retired as president in 1991 from Grand Rapids Holland Insurance Agency. John was the past-president of West Michigan CPCU. He was deeply respected in his field.
John also volunteered at CRWRC Disaster Relief, Crossroads Prison Ministries and he served on the board of Resthaven.
John and Wava were avid golfers and U of M fans, they traveled extensively and also traveled all across the US in their RV.
Above all else John was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a fierce follower of Jesus Christ and for a large portion of his life Faith Christian Reformed Church was his home church. He also sang in the Trinity Mens Chorus.
A time of visitation will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16
th
Street, Holland. Private funeral services for extended family are planned. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland or Crossroads Prison Ministries.
