Gerke “Gary” Boomsma, age 83 of Holland, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
Gary emigrated from the Netherlands as a young man and enthusiastically made a life in America. One of his proudest achievements was becoming a U.S. citizen, as he truly loved this country. He also loved God, his family and his friends. Late in life, he even discovered a passion for sailing. Gary could make friends with anyone and will be remembered for his big heart and generous spirit.
Gary is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Anneke Boomsma; children: Elly and Rick DeVries, Rev. Ron and Tami Boomsma, Peggy and Brian Arnold; grandchildren: Brandon and Emily DeVries, Ben and Kristi DeVries, Zach and Andrea Boomsma, Courtney and Chris Frick, Paige and Jordan Johnson, Taylor Boomsma, Ashley Boomsma, Erin Arnold, Gary Arnold and Brian Arnold; brother, Gatze Boomsma; sister-in-law, Gre Gerrits; as well as nieces and nephews.
Gary’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Appledorn Assisted Living and Hospice of Holland for the excellent care he received during his time there.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:30 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16

Street, Holland, MI 49423. A memorial services at Langeland-Sterenberg will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 9, with a gathering at the Villa’s of Holland community building immediately following the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Holland.
