HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As a police department in northern California grieves over the loss of one of their own, the death of Corporal Ronil Singh resonates throughout law enforcement nationwide.
The seven-year veteran of the Newman Police Department south of San Francisco was gunned down during a traffic stop around 1 AM Pacific Time on Wednesday and leaves behind a wife and a five-month-old baby. Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Kempker is among those in law enforcement nationwide who are mouring the loss of Corporal Singh. “It’s part of our job that is always on the back of your mind every time that you go on a call or you make that traffic stop,” he said during his monthly appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.” “It’s one of those things that we have to deal with every day, and it’s one of those things that, as the administrator of the sheriff’s office, that you worry every day. You hope that your staff – men and women serving the community – can go home safely to their families every night after their shift.”
Singh’s death was the 144th among those in blue or brown nationwide this year, a 12 percent increase from 2017, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
