(ALLEGAN COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office has identified that man killed while walking along U.S. 131 early Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2018.
Police say Roky Ines Vasquez-Vasquez, 24, of Grand Rapids, was hit by a vehicle at around 5:30 a.m. on U.S. 131 near Wayland. His body was found three hours later.
Sheriff’s deputies closed the U.S. 131’s northbound lanes near by Wayland exit for several hours while investigating the incident.
Police believe Vasquez-Vasquez had been driving his own vehicle when he had a single-vehicle crash and at about 2:15 a.m., and fled the scene on foot.
Police were alerted to a car-deer strike at about 5:30 a.m. in that area, but, searching in the dark, didn’t find any evidence along the roadway.
Just before 8:30 a.m., a driver called police after spotting a body near the shoulder of the road.
The incident remains under investigation.
