OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Ottawa County Selection Committee has chosen former Park Township Supervisor and State Representative Amanda Price to serve as the next Ottawa County Treasurer.
Price will take over the county treasurer position from current Treasurer Bradley Slagh.
Slagh was appointed to the Treasurer position on September 10, 2007, and retained by voters for three successive terms. He’s been elected to be the 90th District State Representative and is leaving his role as treasurer on Dec. 31, 2018.
Price stood out among a group county officials deemed “a highly qualified field,” which included financial professionals and public servants.
“We were thrilled with the caliber of the candidates who applied for treasurer, and we are excited to have the chance to work with Amanda to continue to provide excellent customer service to the people of Ottawa County,” said Justin Roebuck, Ottawa County Clerk / Register of Deeds, chairman of the Ottawa County selection committee. Other committee members: Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney Ronald Frantz, and Ottawa County Probate Judge Mark Feyen.
Price represented the 89th District for six years in the Michigan House of Representatives chairing the Local Government, and the Tax Policy committees.
In 2015, Price was named the Michigan Association of Counties “Advocate,” and the Legislator of the Year by the Association of Builders and Contractors of Michigan. She is a Michigan State University graduate who earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University, and completed MSU’s Michigan Political Leadership Program.
“I am honored to be chosen to serve the residents of Ottawa County as their newly appointed County Treasurer,” Price said in a statement emailed to the media from the county.
The county’s selection committee is required by statute to appoint the county treasurer in the case of a vacancy.
Price will complete the remaining two years of Slagh’s four-year term.
Voters will see the treasurer’s seat on the ballot again in 2020.
