HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Holland City Council takes care of a couple of loose ends and gets an update on the Tulip City’s annual signature event during this evening’s final business meeting of 2018.
On the agenda for the 7 PM session in Chambers at Holland City Hall is an attendance and economic impact report from the Tulip Time Festival, expected to be delivered by its Executive Director, Gwen Auwerda; a change in Holland’s zoning process so that there is a public outreach process prior to submitting specified rezoning and site/development plans applications with the city’s Planning Commission, with developers able to incorporate such public comments into its proposal; and a preliminary Governance Framework and Process Manual stemming from three study sessions this fall, conducted by corporate consultant Dave Medema, that deal with improving relationships from within City Hall and the community.
Perhaps highlighting what Council members will be considering is the procedural Second Reading and expected approval of an ordinance amendment that would prohibit the establishment of “marihuana” establishments in the City of Holland in the wake of last month’s statewide voter approval of Proposal 1 that allowed the sale and use of recreational marijuana in Michigan. Local communities have the option of opting out of allowing such establishments, and Holland is apparently going in the way of neighboring Zeeland and other municipalities in such a direction, although the city won’t be allowed to prohibit possession and use of limited amounts of pot that the new state statute permits.
