HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The former director of the Macatawa Area Express, the Holland-area transit system, is behind bars at Ottawa County Jail.
The former MAX Transit executive director, Linda LeFebre, 53, was sentenced Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, to 180 days in jail and two years of probation for misusing a MAX credit card and for manipulating the MAX payroll to overpay herself over the course of several years.
She pleaded guilty last month to one count of embezzlement between $20,000 and $50,000, a felony punishible under Michgian law by a prison sentence of up to 10 years, or a fine up to $15,000, or three times the value of the money or property embezzled,
LeFebre has already paid restitution — $44,347.05 — and must pay $500 in court fees and costs, according to a Holland Sentinel report. Police began investigating financial irregularities in March.
LeFebre, who had been with MAX since 2001, was suspended from her job in March but abruptly resigned on April 26, 2018. Police later found she’d taken a more than $32,000 over four years.
