HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — If ever you wanted to see the inside of Holland’s James DeYoung Power Plant, just under 300 chances are available on the next two Saturdays, and slots are filling fast, according to organizers.
The free tours are aimed at giving residents a chance to see the plant, inside and out, and think about what the future may hold for the facility, which was decommissioned in 2017.
The project, dubbed Waterfront Holland by city officials, has tours at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. for this Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018; and for Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at the same times.
Each free tour is limited to 30 people at a time, so reservations are required.
Each tour is guided and participants are required to stick together for safety’s sake, because, as Holland BPW officials indicated, the facility is a retired power-generation station, not designed for public access.
The tours, according to organizers, are not recommended for people with mobility challenges. It’s unclear whether a video tour will be compile for those unable to take a tour, but WHTC has asked that question.
