WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – An elementary school principal in the Spring Lake Public School district has earned a national honor.
Jason Lawson of Lake Hills Elementary School is one of 11 recipients of the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership, as announced by Holland native and US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on Tuesday. Only 39, Lawson has been at the operational helm of that school for five years, and in that time, he has turned things around to the point in which Lake Hills earned a state Reward School accolade for overall improvement and garnering a National Blue Ribbon Schools designation.
The Bell Award goes to school leaders who show commitment to education and improving outcomes for all students, and principals were nominated during the final stages of the National Blue Ribbon Schools application process. Lawson will be honored during the NBRS awards ceremony in Washington on November 7th.
