HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — After a mass layoff of 55 people Friday, Yanfeng Automotive Interiors announced Monday that the company will shutter its Holland Tech Center, 701 S. Waverly Rd., “as it no longer aligns to our current and future needs,” according to a company statement emailed to media.
The remaining 300 tech center positions will be shifted, for at least the next three years, to Yanfeng’s Michigan Tech Center in Novi, suburban Detroit, which also serves as the company’s North American headquarters and main tech center in Michigan, according to the company’s statement.
About 300 positions from the current Holland Tech Center will eventually be relocated to Yanfeng’s Southview plant in Holland sometimes next year, accoding to the compnay’s statement.
The Southview Tech Center will serve as Yanfeng’s North American manufacturing process innovation center.
Yanfeng Automotive Interiors produces door and instrument panels; cockpits; floor and overhead consoles; decorative trim; and lighting technologies. Yanfeng is an $8.8 billion company based in Shanghai and has some 33,000 employees at 110 locations in 20 countries. One of its partners is Adient, which produces seating and has plants in the the Holland area.
One of Yangfeng’s inititatives is creating driverless-car concepts.
