ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A suspect wanted in what appeared to be an inside series of burglaries in the Saugatuck/Douglas area last month is in custody.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department announced on Wednesday the apprehension and arraignment of Edward George Allen. Information received by a deputy assigned to the Saugatuck City detail led to additional evidence and a subsequent arrest of the 58-year-old man five days ago.
Allen was arraigned in Allegan District Court on two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of safe breaking stemming from the September 23rd burglary of the Star of Saugatuck. He remains held in the Allegan County Jail, and more charges could be forthcoming once results from forensic investigation of evidence in similar incidents are complete. The incidents were among the first major crimes since the city of Saugatuck’s policing contract with neighboring Douglas expired on June 30th and replaced by a pact with the Sheriff’s Department.
The case remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau (269-673-0500) or Allegan County Silent Observer (800-554-3633).
