HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Police are are investigating an early morning crash on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, that left 59 year old Richard Baker with serious injuries, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Matt Wilfong.
Initially, the driver blamed for the crash, Jordon Haan, 34, declined treatment for injuries at the scene — but he went to Spectrum Zeeland Community Hospital later, and was transferred to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Wildfong said, and underwent surgery for internal injuries, including spinal fractures.
The crash happened when Haan, who had been driving north on 96th Avenue near Van Buren Street, looked down for what he thought was something crawling on his leg. He looked up just as his vehicle was crashing into the one ahead of him, driven by Richard Baker, Wildfong said.
The crash sent Baker’s vehicle into the intersection, hitting a third vehicle, driven by Zeeland resident Prasert Wongvilart, 52, who escaped the crash without injuries.
