HOLLAND TWP. (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland Charter Township is hosting a dedication ceremony at Howard B. Dunton Park at 11 a.m. Friday to celebrate nearly $1.2 million in waterfront improvements.
Among the improvements are better water access for kayaks and canoes; a new restroom facility; a boat storage building; a play area; as well as benches; walkways; trees; lighting; a picnic shelter; water viewing area; and a floating dock. The changes include universal design principles, making the area more accesble to people with disaiblities.
The project got funded partly from Holland Township’s general operating fund, along with a $300,000 grant from the Michigan Natural Resources’ trust fund (MNRTF), and $15,000 from the Outdoor Discovery Center.
Contractors on the project include East Grand Rapids-based M.C. Smith and Associates for design and construction as well as construction work by Denny’s Excavating Inc., of West Olive.
