HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Six weeks before the Holland Civic Center is set to reopen, the City of Holland has to modify its agreement with those who will be operating the facility.
During a special business meeting ahead of the scheduled biweekly work-study session, the City Council is expected to approve an amendment in the deal with VenuWorks, the Iowa-based firm retained to manage the Civic Center. This is to cover the conversion from the originally-designed “warming” kitchen to a “full service” kitchen that VenuWorks is requesting to accommodate possible events.
Under terms of the new agreement, the revenue share will be a flat five percent for the length of the contract, a 40 percent share in reduction of operating subsidy won’t be in place until, as City Manager Keith Van Beek wrote in his pre-meeting report to Council, “the City is made whole to the $230,569.93” needed to outfit the full service kitchen, and two additional years will be added to the length of the contract.
As for the work-study session itself, an update on a downtown traffic study that may result in changes to the flow and direction of motorists in the heart of Holland will be reviewed, along with discussion on the Housing Next initiative aimed at increasing affordable housing in the Tulip City and its vicinity.
