WAYLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Wayland Police Department has made a correction in reporting a car-bicycle collision that claimed the life of a five-year-old boy on Friday evening.
Police Chief Steven Harper still won’t officially identify the youth in the incident in the Windsor Woods Estates manufactured home complex. Officers were called around 7:30 on a report that the child was struck by a vehicle as he pedaled out of his family’s driveway. Despite efforts by first responders at the scene, the boy was declared deceased by the Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office.
However, he did issue a statement on Saturday evening saying that, instead of a 17-year-old woman driving the vehicle, it was a 33-year-old woman. In addition, the woman apparently had been making a delivery for a local franchise sandwich shop when the incident occurred. Her name remains undisclosed as the investigation into the matter continues.
It’s the third fatal motoring incident reported in Allegan County in the past three days, following a crash involving a dirt bike near Saugatuck and a wreck of a vehicle driven by a minor girl off of a dirt road outside of Dorr.
