HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM)– Meteorologists from the National Weather Service’s Grand Rapids office have issued an excessive heat watch for West Michigan, including Ottawa and Allegan counties.
The watch goes from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening, June 29-30, 2018. Heat indices could reach 100 on Friday and 105 Saturday. Friday night will feel humid, with temperatures in the 70s.
Extreme heat can cause people who spend prolonged time in non-air-conditioned spaces or outside to experience heat-related illnesses.
Children, the elderly and those with existing illnesses will be most vulnerable.
Coping with prolonged high temperatures and high humidity includes:
- drinking plenty of fluids
- finding and remaining in an air-conditioned room
- staying out of the sun
People are advised to check up on relatives and neighbors.
