HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect from noon to 6 p.m. today, June 18, 2018.
Monday’s high temperatures will be in the lower 90s, but in some areas will feel like near 100 from mid to late afternoon.
Intense heat can take a toll on anyone, but is most challenging to the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
Heat safety tips include:
- Taking extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
- Rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion (could include confusion, darker urine, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, headaches, cramping, nausea) and heat stroke (dizziness, red, hot dry skin, weakness or cramping, nausea/vomiting, racing heartbeat, fast and shallow breathing).
- Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
- Drink plenty of water.

Michigan State Police Trooper Martin Miller advises people to carry a bottle of water to stay hydrated, especially while traveling by car.
“Even if the water gets warm, the water is very nourishing and quite a benefit,” he said.
