HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — As one way to emphasize home fire prevention, the Saugatuck and City of Holland Fire departments will host media day showcasing a side-by-side demonstration showing the difference between two types of fires: a typical one and one in a home with a sprinkler system.
“Most people in a standard-sized home with a fire are probably really challenged to get out of that fire within two minutes or less,” said Holland Fire Capt. Chris Tinney. He said smoke alarms are also very important but people need to make sure they remain in working order. A sprinkler system can slow a fire’s progress to give people more time to escape unscathed, he said.
House fires killed seven people daily across the U.S.
The demonstration is set for 10 a.m. Satruday, May 19, 2018 at the Holland Fire Department’s Waverly Station, 761 S. Waverly. cooperative effort also involving the Fennville and Graafschap Fire Department and the Saugatuck Township Fire District.
