HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) –Holland’s Board of Public Works’ sent letters to its customers alerting them to the water treatment plant being cited for not removing a substance, total organic carbon (TOC), from the drinking water.
The BPW note indicates that TOC is not dangerous but could potentially combine with disinfectants and create secondary substances: trihalomethanes or haloacetic acids — that could cause liver, kidney or nervous system problems or raise the risk of getting cancer.
The BPW note indicates that the water is safe to drink and the utility will review its processes and keep customers posted on any changes.
