ROBINSON TWP. (WHTC-AM/FM) — A single car crash landed a 24-year-old Grand Haven man in Ottawa County jail Saturday, and his passenger in the hospital, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jay Douglas.
The driver, at the wheel of a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, was westbound at a high rate of speed, Douglas said, on North Cedar in Robinson Township. The driver lost control of the vehicle on the dirt road. The vehicle rolled and a passenger, Grand Haven resident Thomas Vanderwall, 28, was ejected from the vehicle. Vanderwall was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth, where he was listed in serious but stable condition, Douglas said..
The driver was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Douglas said, then taken to Ottawa County Jail.
Alcohol is believed a factor, Douglas said, and the crash remains under investigation.
