OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Kempker is the first Ottawa County sheriff ever to complete a national executive development program from the National Sheriffs’ Institute.
Kempker, along with Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast and Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke, traveled to Colorado for the 114th session of the National Sheriffs’ Institute from April 9-13.
The sessions were sponsored by a federal agency, the National Institute of Corrections and the National Sheriffs’ Institute.
The three Michigan sheriffs studied contemporary policing issues and were trained on effective leadership, public safety, criminal justice system policy, community relations, organization effectiveness and efficiency.
Just 30 sheriffs from around the U.S. are selected for this program.
