HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Herrick District Library will host two classes for beginning genealogists. The identical classes are set for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the library’s main branch, 300 River Ave.
“There’s so many neat things you can uncover when you learn,” said Sara DeVries, Herrick’s community relations manager. “You can go back and do some research online.”
She said class attendees don’t have to be computer experts, but it helps to have some familiarity with a keyboard.
DeVries said her own adventures in genealogy have been diverse. On the one hand, she discovered, thanks to her uncle’s research, that a home she was considering buying once belonged to her great-grandmother. She started delving into the other side of her family, that of her grandfather who immigrated from the Phillipines.
“I had not even known he’d been an heir to a plantation, which he gave up to come to the States,” she said. “So, there’s no, you know, shortage of fascinating stories you can uncover, when you start to research your family.”
