HOLLAND TWP. (WHTC-AM/FM) — A Holland Township man landed in the Ottawa County Jail early Friday morning, and is awaiting arraignment on multiple driving-related charges , according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Dill.
The problem started when the 51-year-old man, who had been driving north on US 31, decided to pull off into the median, just before 2 a.m. Friday.
“He drove directly in the path of a northbound 2002 Mercury Sable being driven by Johnny Gaines of Holland Township,” Dill said.
Two other drivers, trying to avoid the first crash, collided with one another, Dill said.
Police closed all the northbound lanes for more than an hour for the crash investigations.
Gaines was not hurt in the crash; the drivers of the second crash suffered minor injuries, Dill said. The at-fault driver’s name is being withheld. He was treated at Holland Hospital and released to police custody.
AMR Ambulance and Holland Township Fire & Rescue assisted Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies on the scene.
