SAUGATUCK (WHTC-AM/FM) — Earth Day is on a Sunday this year, April 22, so Michigan DNR is looking for some hardy volunteers the day before, on Saturday, April 21.
The DNR volunteers will help tear out a small patches of garlic mustard hiding in Saugatuck Dunes State Park’s forest, filled with beech and maple trees.
Volunteers will meet at the main park entrance off of 138th street and plan on arriving a few minutes before the 10 a.m. start time. The work is set to end at 1 p.m.
No experience is necessary, but plan on a 10-minute hike to the work location and dressing in layers to accomodate the weather. Volunteers should have a Michgian recreation passport on their vehicles or be prepared to pay for a day pass, according to the DNR’s statement.
Pre-registration is suggested. Email freih@michigan.gov or visit michigan.gov/dnrvolunteers to sign up.
