CROCKERY TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 48-year-old Fruitport man suffered serious injuries when he was struck in the middle of a Nunica roadway on Saturday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, Foster Champagne, wearing dark clothing, was attempting to cross a dimly-lit Apple Avenue near 144th Avenue just before 10 PM. “Witnesses say that Foster was cross the road and stopped in the eastbound lane, near the center line, and yelled something back to the house that he just left,” Wildfong explained. “He was then struck by the van near the driver’s door. The driver of the van, 18-year-old Sam France, says that he did not see the man in the road until he hit him.”
Champagne was taken to Hackley Hospital for treatment; France, who is from Spring Lake, was not hurt. The incident remains under investigation.
