LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It looks as if Aric Nesbitt is clearing the decks for a run at the state Senate.
The former House Representative from Lawton submitted his resignation on Thursday, effective on Saturday, as the state Lottery Commissioner in order to what Governor Snyder’s office said was exploring “other options for public service.” It is expected that Nesbitt will shortly submit the 100-dollar fee needed to run for the state Senate seat that Tonya Schuitmaker must vacate at year’s end. Fellow Republican Bob Genetski, the Allegan County Clerk from Saugatuck, and Libertarian Erwin Haas of Kentwood have already paid that fee; Garnet Lewis of Saugatuck announced her intention for the Democratic Party nomination but has yet to formally file with the Secretary of State’s office.
Nesbitt was named the state’s nine Lottery Commissioner 13 months ago after being term-limited out of the state House in 2016. He is being replaced by Chief Deputy Lottery Commissioner Brian Neill, pending state Senate approval.
