HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Tulip City apparently proved to be no safe haven on Wednesday afternoon for a man wanted by the feds.
According to Holland Department of Public Safety Captain Keith Mulder, officers were asked to assist US Marshals who attempted to apprehend the unnamed man at a residence near the area of West 11th Street and Washington Avenue around 1:30 PM. There was a warrant out for his arrest on a felony weapons charge from Grand Rapids, along with an habitual offender count.
The department’s Special Enforcement Team, which included trained negotiators and a K9 Unit, were deployed as a perimeter was established at the house and a search warrant was obtained. After about a 2½-hour standoff, negotiators were able to convince the suspect to surrender without incident, and he was taken by the Marshals’ Fugitive Team back to Grand Rapids.
There were no injuries sustained by responding officers or others at the scene, and no names were immediately disclosed.
