ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A fire that destroyed two units at the Allendale Meadows manufactured home community yesterday morning is being investigated as “suspicious in nature.”
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Dill was among a number of first responders who were dispatched to the residences off of Sugar Loaf Avenue, in the vicinity of Lake Michigan Drive and 48th Avenue, around 10:50 AM. “Responders arrived to find two residences involved in the fire and all occupants were evacuated safely prior to the responders’ arrival,” he explained. “The fire is considered suspicious in nature and is being investigated by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit.”
Allendale Fire Chief Mike Keefe told M-Live that the blaze started in a shed and spread to the two units, and it took about four hours to bring the flames under control and to douse any lingering hot spots. There were no injuries suffered by responding firefighters.
A precise cause of the fire remains under investigation, and Dill didn’t say what led to the conclusion that the blaze was set. Anyone with any information on the matter is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer.
