GENEVA TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The identity of a 42-year-old South Haven area man slain in an what appears to be a robbery attempt gone bad at his home has been revealed, but the perpetrators have yet to be apprehended.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched to a unit in the Ports of Call Mobile Home Park around 9 PM on Thursday to find the body of Shawn Pierre Gill near the entrance to the unit. A woman in the residence had hid when Gill answered the door and gunshots rang out. Witnesses say that two men were seen running from the unit, and a canine unit traced their scene to a vacant residence nearby, where it appeared that they got into a vehicle and drove off.
Detectives are investigating this case as a homicide and initially believe that not only did the victim know his assailants, who are still at large.
