GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Water levels continue to fall a week after heavy rains drenched the Lakeshore and much of Southern Michigan.
Although a Flood Warning continues for the Grand River in Robinson Township through Saturday afternoon, the water level there has dropped to under 16 feet, which is more than two and a half feet above the 13.3-foot flood stage level. Observers are still saying that the waters will go under that mark by early Friday afternoon. A no-body contact advisory for the Grand River in Ottawa County issued a day ago by the Ottawa County Department of Community Health still remains “until further notice.”
A flood warning for the Kalamazoo River near New Richmond was canceled last night; the waters there just reached the 17-foot flood stage before receding.
Most of the roadways that were either overwhelmed by water or damaged by the weather conditions have been repaired and/or reopened. However, many streets and neighborhoods near the Grand River are still submerged.
National Weather Service forecasters in the Grand Rapids office are predicting another round of heavier rain is possible from tomorrow night into Thursday, with amounts at or over an inch across most of southern Lower Michigan, which could exacerbate the flooding problem, and accumulating snow north of I-96 is possible.
