PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 58-year-old Holland man spent the weekend in the Ottawa County Jail after slamming his pickup truck head-on into a Sheriff’s Department cruiser.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, a caller to Central Dispatch around 7:25 PM on Friday evening reported that he had talked to the apparently inebriated suspect, who was in his parked vehicle in a driveway at a apartment complex off of Lakewood Boulevard and 152nd Avenue. “The truck left the residence prior to police arrival,” Wildfong explained, “and the caller was able to keep the truck in sight. The truck drove through multiple yards in the area and was located on Bay Circle Court by Deputy (Chris) Armstrong. As he was trying to get the truck to stop, the two vehicles collided head-on.”
Wildfong said that the cruiser was fully marked and that Armstrong had his beacon lights displayed at the time of the collision. Both drivers were buckled up and were not injured, but the suspect was taken into custody on operating a vehicle under the influence and awaits an arraignment in Holland District Court.
The case remains under investigation.
