OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The letter B was a popular one to begin naming a canine in Ottawa County last year.
According to County Treasurer Brad Slagh, whose office handles the issuing of dog licenses in the county, “Bella” took top honors, followed by “Bailey,” “Lucy,” “Charlie,” “Molly,” “Cooper,” “Buddy,” “Sadie” and “Tucker.” It’s the second straight year that “Bella” was the most popular name. As for breeds, Slagh said that the top five licensed breeds were Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Chihuahua, German Shepherd and Shih Tzu.
The announcement served as a way for Slagh’s office to remind dog owners of a nearly 100-year-old state law that requires canines to be licensed. More information about the process is available here.
