HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – There won’t be meter maids coming to downtown Holland anytime soon, but there may be those who are not wearing police blue writing tickets soon along 8th Street.
The City Council is expected this evening to approve an ordinance amendment that would allow others who are not members of the Public Safety Department to issue citations if they spot certain parking violations. This is in keeping with state law that allows properly trained personnel that are designated by a municipality’s legislative body to fulfill this function, and according to the city attorney’s office, permitting Downtown Development Authority staff to write up parking scofflaws will save “police resources in having to respond to these infractions.”
Because not all council members are slated to attend this evening’s session, the matter of selecting a new City Manager has been pushed back to a special business meeting next Wednesday night. There will be a closed-door meeting to review legal opinions before the 7 PM regular open business meeting in chambers at Holland City Hall.
