HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – In this season of job vacancies, one should be filled by Tuesday evening.
The Holland Township Board will conduct open interviews, beginning at 3 PM on Tuesday, with Macatawa Area Coordinating Council Executive Director Steve Bulthuis and Ludington City Manager John Shay, as they emerged from 32 applications to be the finalists for the township manager position that Don Komejan retires from in May. The search didn’t come without controversy, as Supervisor Terry Nienhuis and his fellow trustees apparently didn’t follow the state’s Open Meetings Act protocol, especially in initially having these interviews held behind closed doors before pressure from the media and the public compelled the change. “We obviously comply with the Open Meetings Act on a daily basis,” Nienhuis said, “but when it comes down to the interview process, it takes a little different turn, and we acknowledge that we made a mistake there.”
Neinhuis added that the board will hold a special meeting following the interviews and expects the panel to make a decision on a new manager at that time.
Other notable municipal positions that are currently open along the Lakeshore include Holland City Manager and Zeeland Police Chief.
