OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The first Holland/Zeeland area educational facility to be closed due to the nationwide flu outbreak this winter is Sheldon Pines School. The building operated by the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District will not open today or tomorrow “due to illness”
Influenza A seems to be the most prominent strain right now among youngsters in Michigan. Dr. Banu Kumar of Children’s Hospital of Michigan says they are seeing about 150 sick kids at the Detroit facility each day, which is typical for much of the nation right now. “The flu activity all over the country, not just in Michigan, has gone up significantly in the last few weeks,” she observed.
None of the other buildings in the OAISD complex in West Olive are apparently affected as much as Sheldon Pines is.
