HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – While some want Super Bowl Sunday declared a national holiday, it will be no picnic for those in blue or brown.
State troopers will join their colleagues on the county and local level in heightened road patrols before, during and after the NFL championship game, looking for drunken, “buzzed” or otherwise impaired drivers. During his 15 years with the Holland Department of Public Safety, Sergeant Jon Boeve has too often had to be called in as an accident reconstructionist when such a motorist gets into a crash. “Those are some of the things that can tie officers up for several hours,” he explained. “Getting into that crash investigation, possibly finding a person who may have fled the scene of a crash, and then obviously processing that person for drunk driving, that can take time.”
Boeve and Firefighter Eric Tien were honored as the department’s officer and firefighter of the year for their efforts in 2017.
