PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It’s not just Groundhog Day today.
It’s also the national “Give Kids a Smile” day, kicking off a week-long awareness of dental health for youngsters by the American Dental Association Foundation. Organizers say that pain from untreated dental disease makes it difficult for children to eat and sleep, affects concentration in the classroom, and poor oral health can lead to low self-esteem.
As part of this effort, Dr. Robert Kamminga will be on board the Ottawa County Department of Public Health’s “Miles of Smiles” mobile dental unit as it visits Great Lakes Elementary School in the West Ottawa district today, providing comprehensive dental care for Medicaid-insured and financially qualifying uninsured children. All students at that school will receive a gift bag, complete with a toothbrush, toothpaste, a prize and information on oral health education.
