WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – The stage is set for President Trump to deliver his first State of the Union address tonight.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told NBC News this morning that the president will address national security and immigration, and that those watching the remarks are going to see “a lot of the president’s heart in this speech.” While Mr. Trump may be long on concepts and short on particulars, he will be giving Congress his proverbial “marching orders,” according to House Republican Fred Upton of St. Joseph. “We all want the country to succeed, we want the President to succeed, no matter who it is,” he said on “WHTC Morning News” today in his weekly interview. “This is really starting off the legislative agenda; we hear what his priorities are, the budget comes up in a week or two, and it’s off to the races. Let’s govern.”
Massachusetts Congressman Joe Kennedy, the grandson of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, will give the Democratic response to the President’s speech. The address will happen before a joint session of Congress, and we’ll have coverage from CBS News beginning at 9 PM on 1450 WHTC and the New 99.7 FM.
