HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Now that Holland City Hall has some future guidance, the normal course of things would be for the City Manager to start drawing up a budget for Fiscal 2019.
The problem is, the course of things is not normal this year at Holland City Hall, with Greg Robinson set to end an interim seven-month stint as City Manager on Wednesday, the appointment of a permanent replacement for Ryan Cotton not expected until later this spring, and a May 16th deadline by city law to have a new spending plan in place for a July 1st start. No problem, says Mayor Nancy DeBoer. “They’ll be fine with putting together the numbers and how we can finance what we had talked about over the weekend,” she explained. “I’m sure that it will be a smooth effort, for Tim has been involved in budget preparations his entire career, and so, he’ll be fine.”
Tim is Finance Director Tim Vagle, and he is expected to be helped by Police Chief Matt Messer, who will serve as an acting City Manager, starting on Thursday, and by deputy City Manager Matt Van Dyken in the budget-making process. They were part of an “Advance” session this past weekend involving council members and city staffers in which priorities and goals for the upcoming year were spelled out.
