SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A decision on a new leader for Saugatuck Public Schools could hinge on developments tonight.
In a special 7 PM meeting at Saugatuck High’s media center, the Board of Education will conduct a second interview with Saugatuck High Principal Tim Travis. He is the only candidate thus far to emerge for the soon-to-be-vacant Superintendent’s position, and had answered questions from the board a week ago about this opening. While the meeting agenda makes no mention of any board decision following this evening’s interview, it is believed that the job search would be extended to outside of the district if the panel doesn’t appoint Travis to the position.
The post opened up last September when Rolfe Timmerman and the board agreed to a “retirement” settlement, effective this Friday, January 26th. Timmerman, who came to the district nine years ago from Hamilton, will return to being a elementary school principal next Monday after he was appointed by the West Ottawa Board of Education to assume the leadership duties at Lakeshore Elementary School.
