GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An 18-year-old Grand Haven woman won’t see any more jail time for stabbing another woman in the face at a Holland residence last November.
Lia Thomas was sentenced yesterday by Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Karen Miedema to 65 days behind bars, which Thomas already has served, along with two years probation and other restrictions and requirements during that span. Thomas slashed at the unnamed victim with a box-cutter during an altercation at a home off of West 14th Street on November 18th, causing several stitches that needed treatment at Holland Hospital.
Thomas pled guilty to a felonious assault charge, which could have sent her to prison for up to four years, along with a two thousand-dollar fine. Her attorney had asked the court for a sentence that is in keeping with the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, which would expunge the conviction from her record if she successfully completes the terms of her probation, but Judge Miedema didn’t immediately make a ruling on that request.
