GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two communities are in mourning after a late Wednesday morning crash took the life of a 27-year-old Zeeland man who served the Calder City.
Kyle Grant had been with the Grand Rapids Police Department as a Crime Scene Technician in its Forensic Services Unit for nearly six years when he lost control of his pickup truck on a snow-covered eastbound I-196 near the M-6 junction east of Hudsonville just before 12 Noon. His vehicle slammed into the rear of a stopped semi ahead of him and then careened into another stopped vehicle. Grant was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, GRPD Chief David Rahinsky said, “Kyle was a shining example of a young man with a heart for service. His commitment to this department and community were exceptional. Kyle will be missed, but not forgotten.”
According to the department, Grant was engaged to be married this coming fall. A Monday visitation, with a Tuesday afternoon funeral service, is slated for The Lee Chapel in Norton Shores; full arrangement details is available through the Sytsema Funeral & Creamation Services website.
