PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – One man was injured in a fire at a Park Township residence yesterday afternoon.
No names were disclosed as crews from three departments were able to contain the blaze to the garage area in the 1800 block of Main Street shortly after 4 PM. Investigators say that the victim had been working in a vehicle parked inside of the attached garage when flames started to come out of the vehicle’s engine department.
He and a woman, both of whom were “housesitting” for the absent owners, were able to initially escape the scene safely, but in an effort to save four dogs inside of the house, he dashed back inside. When he came back out, he collapsed and was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The woman was able to lead the canines to safety; she was unhurt, and no responding firefighters were injured.
The residence sustained “major” smoke damage, according to Park Township Fire Chief Scott Gamby, and the incident remains under investigation.
