CROCKERY TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As family and friends grieve the death of a 59-year-old Nunica woman, efforts to find out why her body was in a wooded area near her home last night continue.
Deputies and detectives found Sheila Bonge some distance behind her 104th Avenue residence, and according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jay Douglas,
“Her death is suspcious at this point and the investigation is ongoing.” Family members hadn’t seen Bonge since Christmas Eve; they did talk to her over the phone on Christmas afternoon.
Sheriff Steve Kempker opened up his monthly appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town” this morning by telling Ed Ver Schure and his listeners that a suspect is in custody. “It’s a very complex case right now, it’s a very active case,” he said. “Our detective units are out right now, and we hope to have things wrapped up by the end of the day.”
Around midday, according to Sheriff’s Captain Jon Wolffis, “Sheriff’s investigators have lodged a 63-year-old Crockery Township man on a charge of open murder. This investigation has now been ruled a homicide, and this investigation is ongoing.”
Anyone with any more information on this matter is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer.
