HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – There were a couple of developments yesterday at Holland City Hall that may have been related to last week’s resignation of Deputy City Clerk Anna Perales.
One was anticipated, as City Council last night approved making the City Clerk the designated Freedom of Information Act point person for the city. Those duties had been the responsibility of the Deputy Clerk, but that post became vacant when council accepted the resignation of Perales after 17 years in that position with a non-disclosure agreement. Tim Vagle, who added the Clerk’s title to that of Finance Director when Jenifer French stepped down in 2014, ending a lengthy legal battle between her and the city over residency and tax issues, will now handle all FOIA requests to the city.
The other development wasn’t anticipated when a scheduled afternoon meeting of the City Manager Search Committee yesterday had to be abruptly halted because the proper protocol under the state’s Open Meetings Act wasn’t followed. According to the city’s website, the clerk’s office is responsible for publishing public meeting notices. The committee meeting was rescheduled for 1:30 PM today at Holland City Hall, and the notice, with a meeting agenda, is posted at city hall and on the city’s website.
There has been no word from the city as to when or if the Deputy City Clerk’s position will be refilled.
