WRIGHT TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The initial report yesterday afternoon was that a 54-year-old Coopersville woman was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash near her hometown.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christie Wendt, 55-year-old David Hastings of Coopersville was driving eastbound on Randall Street around 4 PM when he apparently went through a stop sign at 48th Avenue and collided with the northbound vehicle of 62-year-old Lawrence Weiss of Holland. Hastings’ wife Lori had to be taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, while the two drivers involved were not hurt.
However, as it was pointed out later by WXMI-TV, Lori Hastings is the founder of “Lori’s Voice,” a non-profit organization “founded and established to help young people with disabilities … it evolved from Lori’s great love for children and the realization of so many challenges young people face when living with a disability.” Her husband David is on the charity’s board.
Wendt added that all involved were buckled up as the crash remains under investigation.
