GRANDVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It should be a better day to protest in Grandville this afternoon.
Democratic US House challenger Dr. Rob Davidson wants to continue putting the heat on four-term Congressional incumbent Bill Huizenga by staging a rally outside of the Zeeland Republican’s Grandville office this afternoon. Apparently timed to attract the maximum amount of television media attention, the 4 PM protests is aimed at pressuring Huizenga to support the DREAM Act of 2017 that would protect children of undocumented immigrants from deportation, provide permanent residency for those children, and establish a path of citizenship for them. An initial rally set for last Wednesday afternoon was pushed back due to inclement weather.
Last week, Davidson, an emergency room physician from Spring Lake, was supposed to submit an online petition to Huizenga and members of the Federal Communications Commission asking that net neutrality rules remain in place. The petition was to be put forward ahead of the FCC’s meeting last Thursday that lifted those rules; court challenges are expected to hold up the implementation of those changes. However, according to Huizenga’s Congressional office, no such petition was submitted last Thursday.
