LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two railroad crossings between Holland and Grand Haven will get better for motorists next year.
The crossing at James Street on Holland’s North Side and at Ferris Street south of the county seat were chosen by Michigan Department of Transportation officials from among 89 submitted statewide to receive 2018 Local Grade Crossing Surface Program competitive grants. The 40 projects will share in about three million dollars in funds for work that M-DOT officials say can go from minor asphalt repairs to a complete installation of new track and surface materials.
This money will fund 60 percent of the projects’ cost, with 19 partnering railroad companies responsible for the other 40 percent, along with contracting out the repair work. Dates for the Lakeshore projects are to be announced by the Ottawa County Road Commission.
